PHIL WEYLAND
After majoring in theatre at Texas Tech in the late 1960s, Philip Weyland became involved in the then-thriving dinner theatre circuit beginning with the Lubbock, Texas' "Hayloft Dinner Theatre". At the "Hayloft", Phil both acted and directed while simultaneously serving as the community theatre's children's theater director. It was there that he worked with stars, ranging from Andy Devine, Dwayne Hickman, Nancy Kulp (Miss Hathaway from "The Beverly Hillbillies") and DeForest Kelley.
After leaving the Hayloft and Lubbock for Dallas and eventually L.A., Phil was contacted by DeForest Kelley with a job offer to work as his stand-in on 1979's "Star Trek: The Motion Picture," and later on "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan". In 1982 Phil began to work as William Shatner's stand-in and dialogue coach for the entire run of "T.J. Hooker". He was seen in numerous episodes of "Hooker" playing one of the LCPD officers.
Phil also worked as William Shatner's stand-in and dialogue coach during Star Treks II through VII. Phil had the distinct privilege of being present during more of the filming of the motion pictures involving members of TOS than ANY other person.
Phil has been involved in a number of other projects in recent years including acting as Luke Perry's stand-in on "Beverly Hills 90210" (on which he also had several roles), acting and standing in on "Matlock" from 1989-1992, and appearing in such movies as "Predator 2" and "Hard to Kill".
Recently Phil met with and corresponded extensively with Terry Rioux, author of the upcoming biography of De Kelley. One of the chapters in the book relates Phil's experiences directing Deforest during his rehearsals and performances at the "Hayloft Dinner Theatre" in the mid 1970's. The biography is entitled "FROM SAWDUST TO STARDUST" and is scheduled to be published next year.
Phil currently resides in Los Angeles, California.
