FRANCE NUYEN

France Nuyen was born of Vietnamese and French parents in France during the second world war. Her stunning beauty combined with gritty determination and she forged a successful modeling career before breaking into movies in Hollywood with a part in a war-time drama, In Love and War (1957)
It was her next role, however, in Rogers and Hammerstein's South Pacific (1958) that truly brought her onto the world stage. Although France was billed under the main star Mitzi Gaynor, for most red-blooded males France stole the show.
She appeared in a number of hit movies in the '60s and '70s, and went on to many successful television performances. The most memorable was her portrayal in 1968 of the mesmerizing "Elaan of Troyius" in the third season Star Trek episode of the same name.
Her appearance in the Asian-American tour de force motion picture The Joy Luck Club as Ying-Ying served to powerfully illustrate what a fabulous talent she still is.
